Dicks Chiangus is owned and operated by Shane and Hayley and their two sons, Dalton and Parker in Great Bend, Kansas and Shane’s Parent’s Bill and Brenda in Linden, Indiana. The Angus division is Legacy Farms and is operated by Shane, Hayley and their two sons along with the expert Veterinary care provided by Hayley’s Dad, Jonathan E. Briel, DVM. We also want to credit Dr. Kirk Gray, Dr. Clay Breiner, Troy Marple and the crew of Cross Country Genetics, Westmoreland, Kansas for the expert care of our embryo transfer program. Frank Deines has been tremendous in providing his herd as a cooperator to increase the number of high quality embryo calves we have to offer.

Our philosophy is to design cattle that work from pasture to plate, while paying attention to three main facets of our industry; breeding stock, club calves and high quality market cattle. Initial attention is given to structural soundness, fertility, maternal excellence, fleshing ability and disposition. Our goal is to have our cattle excel in the breeding venue, be competitive in the show ring, and produce the highest quality meat protein for consumption by consumers.

Chiangus Beginnings

The root of our breeding program starts with BC Ms Total Power 83Y PCA (Mary Lou) who was purchased from Black Champ Enterprises in the Fall of 1989. Mary Lou exhibited the fertility and quality that we desired; and averaged 33 embryos when flushed by Dr. Chuck Hannon. She produced several high quality calves, the most notable was WDF Kerrigan 1D PCA who was the 1996 Chiangus Classic Grand Champion Female exhibited by Sara Barker.

Strengthening the Base

The herd was strengthened by utilizing E&B 1483 Scotchman 669, a very high quality bull bred by Benoit Angus, Esbon, Kansas. 669 typified what we were looking for; extreme soundness, natural thickness, fleshing ability and a fantastic disposition. The initial embryos from Mary Lou and 669 yielded several good stock bulls and three extremely high quality females, WDF Miss Sweet Pea 1CA, WDF Miss Sweetness 1CA and SDCA Emma Lou 901J 1CA. SDCA Billie Lou 2N 1CA is a Bon View New Design 1407 out of 901J and is a tremendous momma cow with a great disposition. Another very nice female was made with the Mary Lou and 6807 combination; WDF Miss Reba 2E 1CA. Reba exemplifies the maternal traits in her heritage and produced two tremendously complete females; SDCA 669 Rebaline 769T 1CA retained in the herd and SDCA Rebaline 602S 1CA owned by Sheets Chiangus. These females and their daughters by Doctor Who, Star Power, Hard Core, Ali and others will allow us to raise the quality bar year after year.

We would love to have the opportunity to get to know you and your operation. We are all about the promotion of youth, the future of our industry. Please feel free to give us a call.

Thank you and God Bless,
